Church, barangays ink MOA pact on governance


OROQUIETA CITY: The church and barangay officials in Mindanao signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to help the local administration promote a partnership to develop the grassroots.
                                                
Rev. Fr. Antonio E. Labiao, Jr., one of the Ugnayan ng Barangay at Simbahan (UBAS) organizers, said the church considers the importance of villagers in the development of the country.

Labiao is one of the participants of the 1st Congress of Mindanao Liga ng mg Barangay (LnB) Presidents 2014 held in the city, Nov. 7-10.

The church, to mean the church-based organizations, could also help promote a partnership among stakeholders in a lot of areas, so that everyone can benefit from the inclusive growth being pushed by the national government, he said.

He stressed that UBAS makes brave heroes out of ordinary people to get the country to success, aiming to ensure good governance and good governance advocates, strengthen rapport and cooperation among all community stakeholders.

The MOA signing recently came after earlier MOAs entered into by UBAS in other big cities in Luzon and the Visayas.

The MOA partnership areas include those of peace and order, disaster risk management, social protection, employment and livelihood and leadership.
