Binay tells scouts an early message about politics

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Vice President Jejomar Binay, who was the guest of honor of the opening ceremonies of the Centennial Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), told participants to “set aside politics.”

By telling them a story of a scoutmaster being an ordinary citizen, Binay said to pay respect on the man not the way people compliments a politician who gets criticized all the way.

Binay cited the importance and the values a scout will learn in a jamboree like discipline, humility and sportsmanship.

The vice-president’s visit last Nov. 8 at the Zamboanga Ecozone in San Ramon was also likewise attended by National Scout representatives and from the different Scouting Councils in Mindanao.

Also in attendance were Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco and  Zamboanga Economic Zone and Authority Chairman Christopher Arnuco.

Binay is the President of the BSP and is also the concurrent Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

He visited housing projects under the city’s Z3R program, rehabilitation and reconstruction program for Internally Displaced Persons, including the controversial Lustre Homeowners Subdivision at Paniran Resettlement Project in Sta. Catalina.
Media reports earlier said about a collapse of three housing units at the Lustre housing project.
