ZAMBOANGA
CITY: A total of 6,300 boy scouts and scouting officials came together for the 5-day
Centennial Jamboree at Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority in
Talisayan, a latest report forwarded to Mindanao Pilgrim said .
The
Boy Scouts of the Philippines’ (BSP) event reeled off Saturday, Nov. 8, and
gathered together participants from different BSP councils all over Mindanao.
BSP-Zamboanga
City Council Second Vice-Chairman Engr. Reynaldo Misanes said the theme for
this year’s special celebration is “Peace and Development through Scouting.”
The
bulk of participants coming in last weekend came from Zamboanga Peninsula as
organizers said foreign scouts also arrived to join their local counterparts in
the celebration.
Participants
included all registered scouts ages
10-12 years old holding a Second Class Scout Rank and Senior Scouts from 13-17
years old who are holders of a Pathfinders Scout Rank.
Vice
President Jejomar Binay, BSP president, reminded the scouts when he visited
them to “open their hearts and minds by growing and developing themselves to be
useful citizens.”
The
jamboree likewise presents a Jambo-market, a mini bazaar that sells regional
items, products and delicacies, aside from the usual educational camping,
sports contest, cultural presentations, scout rallies, campfires, parties, drills
and competitions.
Earlier
in October, this city declared through a resolution the date Nov. 8-12 as
National Boy Scouts Jamboree Week.
