BFP tells Ozamiznons: turn off house electricity when evacuating

OZAMIZ CITY: The fire department is advising residents to be safety-conscious and deliberately unplug all electrical appliances and lock their homes when they depart.

Fire Marshall F/Supt. Butch Baulete declared this word of warning to all those who want to evacuate again, should there be another typhoon notice.

The said precautionary measure was also given by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) in the wake of the weather condition brought about by super typhoon Ruby alert for Misamis Occidental.

Baulete said residents of the 14 low-lying and flood-prone coastal barangays in the city were earlier told to put together an evacuation action in case the typhoon hits hard.

Baulete added they might dash in hurry and forget to put off their electrical appliances.

The fire marshall then said two of their four BFP trucks are on standby for rationing water to designated evacuation centers in case the typhoon strikes the province.

It was learned that 67 families in the city were told to make a pre-emptive evacuation due to Typhoon Ruby.

The families came from Baňadero, Carmen Annex, Catadman and Manabay; feared of being caught flat-footed when the impending rains arrive.

The CDRRMC said there was a high tide in the middle of the night last Dec. 5.

By Sunday, however, most of the evacuees returned to their homes, Ludie Salud Raras, CSWD officer, said.
